The women’s tour of Sri Lanka that was to happen later this year, in July is most likely canceled, according to a statement released by Chief Executive David White of New Zealand Cricket. He also said that the men’s cricket team may not be touring Ireland, West Indies, Netherlands, and Scotland, as planned earlier.
Cancellation or even postponement would lead to massive financial losses for the host board. The tour would have seen New Zealand play against the West Indies in three ODIs and three T20Is. Subsequently, New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh in August also remains questionable, although White said that the series may not be categorically ruled out.
COVID-19 has taken a terrible toll worldwide and given this situation, it is extremely disappointing for cricket fans. There was a need, White said on April 3rd Friday, to look at the safety of the people and also of the community on the whole.
Nevertheless, the catastrophe struck New Zealand, just as the team finished its home summer program. The cricket community is still facing difficulties, especially since the lock down is in full force now.
