Sourav Ganguly, who is still in his early days as BCCI chief stressed on the fact that the board has complete clarity over the future of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni in international cricket. Dhoni hasn’t featured in a single minute of action in international cricket ever since India’s heartbreaking loss to New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup in England and therefore, speculations have been rife surrounding his continuity. However, Ganguly insisted that plans surrounding his future wouldn’t be made public right away.
“There is clarity, but certain things cannot be said on a public platform,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI. “There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time.”
In an event recently, Dhoni, while replying to a reporter, had asked him to not pose questions on his future until January, leading to further speculation. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri had recently mentioned that the wicket-keeper- batsman’s form in the 2020 IPL will be key to his future if he has to be considered for the T20 World Cup next year in Australia. “We will see what happens, there’s enough time. Of course, it will get clear,” Sourav Ganguly said in response to Shastri’s comments.
Sourav Ganguly further claimed that there was enough transparency between the board, Dhoni and the selectors on his future. “There’s transparency between the board, MS and the selectors,” he noted. “When you deal with such champions – MS Dhoni is an unbelievable athlete for India – certain things have to be kept within the closed doors. It’s very transparent and everybody knows where they stand.”
