The veteran Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal has communicated to the Bangladesh board about his unavailability for some part of the series as his wife is expecting a second child and he wishes to be by her side.
Sources suggest Tamim will receive test reports on his wife’s health shortly and will then make a call on his plan of action. There is a chance that Tamim will be a part of the side from the very side if the test results come out as positive.
In light of this development, the Bangladesh board has kept ImrulKayes as his backup and has requested him to not join the upcoming edition of the National Cricket League which is expected to start from Saturday. “We haven’t decided anything as yet in this regard [about permitting Tamim],” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told.”Give us some time we still have few more days to think,” he said.
Tamim Iqbal hasn’t been in the best form this year and had a very poor World Cup. He missed the one-off Test against Afghanistan and the T20I tri-nation tournament.
Tamim had a below-par outing in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accumulated only 21 runs. He also couldn’t make an impact in the World Cup, scoring just one fifty and ended up with 235 runs from eight innings at an average of 29.37.
