Pakistan’s head coach, chief selector, and former player Misbah-Ul-Haq named a 20-man probable squad for the training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, on September 16 ahead of Sri Lanka series.
The island nation will be visiting Pakistan for the first time since 2009 since that misfortunate terrorist attack plagued the Sri Lankan contingent and convoy and there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the series.
Veteran all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez haven’t been called up and they are notable omissions from the squad. The Pakistan Cricket Board explained their omission in a press release, “Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have not been named in the probable as they have been granted NOC until 12 October to participate in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)”.
The Caribbean Premier League kicked off on 4th September. Mohammad Hafeez signed with Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots this season while Shoaib Malik is an integral part of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Along with the players that were a part of the ICC World Cup in England, the list of probable also includes Abid Ali, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Iftikhar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Rizwan, and Usman Shinwari.
The camp is supposed to begin on Wednesday.
