IND vs WI: Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja’s finish received all its praise from the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, en route to their 22-run win with the DLS method. The duo metered 167 for 5 in the second T20 Internationals, on Sunday, against the West Indies. Where run-making was rather difficult as the innings progressed on the slow pitch, Keemo Paul was clubbed by the two spin-bowling all-rounders for 20 runs, in the last over of the innings. In a post-match presentation, Kohli did reiterate that the pitch was good to bat early on, and the new ball was performing well. The foundation was good and subsequently, Jadeja and Krunal were able to get India past 160. He also noted that while with the team could have easily garnered 180, with the way they were going, the pitch by itself, slowed the runs in the latter half.
Before rain stopped the play, in pursuit of the target, the West Indies team could manage only 98 for 4 in 15.3 overs. Krunal was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round show. He had already scored an unbeaten 20 in 13 balls and later picked 2 wickets for 23 in just 3.3 overs. According to the all-rounder, his good showing with the bat gave him a lot of confidence that also translated on to his bowling. Krunal himself said that he has been playing his role in domestic cricket as well as the IPL. But batting at no. s 6 and 7 can be dicey. You may or may not be lucky enough to hit the much-needed two good shots. But the batting confidence does help a lot. He thought that they all got accustomed to the two-paced bowling even as some were skidding and sticking. Also, he steered away from bowling the arc and kept it outside off. In a post-match conference, he further explained the importance of obtaining early breakthroughs helping the spinners work their way. The fast bowlers should be able to get early wickets thus making it easier even if the team is 2 or 3 down and the bowling is out to the middle order. In the end, he thought that everyone performed well. He praised Washington Sundar for his performance and echoed that Bhuvi was a world-class bowler.
Washington Sundar got was also praised by Virat Kohli when he returned 1 for 12 in just 3 overs. Pinch hitter Sunil Narine failed to score off him thus including a maiden over. After being out for a while due to an ankle injury the young all-rounder returned to the national side and with the new ball in both the games, so far, managed to make an impact immediately. The Indian Skipper thought that the way Sundar bowled, beginning with the new ball, against those who came hard at their targets, was commendable. While becoming handy with the bat, he has also become leaner and fitter and is going to be a positive factor for the Indian team. India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series with the second win in two days. Kohli believes the series win will give India the cushion to experiment in the last match of the series as India head from Florida to Guyana.
Virat also concluded that while winning was always a priority, sealing the series, gave India the chance to bring some good performers in. The two-game win is a cushion, and he hasn’t played in Guyana before and it would be a great experience and opportunity to play there.
