The IPL once again begins with the same old question, why Royal Challengers Bangalore hasn’t won a trophy? There are 2 other teams (Delhi Capitals & Kings XI Punjab) who hasn’t won the trophy, but every time it’s the Challengers facing the heat. This intense pressure is due to the presence of T20 stars Kohli and De Villiers, also the fact that Kohli leading the national team to many trophies adds the oil to the fire. They aren’t too dependent on those two with them being served with great talent in the form Gayle, Yuvraj, Rahul and so on.
It is this year for the men in red and black with the team looking at the best-settled unit with all bases covered. Let’s see the possible things favoring them to win the tournament with the hurdles they would face in their path.
What’re their strengths?
- The Kohli factor
The man on the mission for his maiden IPL cup is the driving force for the team. With him scoring centuries at the International circuit with ease makes us feel that there are some more centuries coming our way this year from the run machine.
- The pack of all-rounders:
The all-rounders, the selling point in the auction the recent years are the demand for all the teams. RCB have made a great buy in roping Stoinis from Punjab and also added a lot of Indian talents like Dube, Nath to the squad which has all-rounders like Sundar, Ali, and De Grandhomme. Since they can bat at any positions in the batting order and bowl anytime in the match, makes the team a lot balanced and powerful.
- The Chinnaswamy Factor
With the new drainage system, the pitch became a slow one making run scoring a lot difficult but the recent game there between India and Australia was a high scoring one and that favors the hitters they possess in Kohli, De Villiers, and Hetmyer.
What’re their weaknesses?
- The death bowling
If you want to win T20 games, your death bowlers have to deliver for the team. But for RCB they don’t have the Jasprit Bumrah’s or the Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s to deliver for them in the vital overs for them. They have Umesh, Southee, and Coulter-Nile in their ranks along with Stoinis but they aren’t reliable to deliver all the time.
- The Back-ups
All the teams will face the problem with most of their overseas group leaving for the world cup preparation. Whose will be the first to leave, Aussies or the Englishmen? That surely will cost them three valuable picks in Stoinis, Coulter-Nile, and Ali. If the BCCI wants to restrict the senior Indian players, Kohli and Chahal would be rested creating more headaches for a team with less experienced in Indian batsmen and weak bowling unit.
With all said, this is the make or break year for the great entertainers of the IPL. Hope them to win the trophy this year around!
