3rd T20I, Afghanistan vs Ireland, Dehradun: (24th February, Sunday) The attack by Kevin O’Brien was not enough as Afghanistan sealed its 10th consecutive T20I victory over Ireland – taking the third match by 32 runs and completing a 3-0 series sweep. Afghanistan’s win was set up by Mohammad Nabi (81 off 36) and Rashid Khan (5 for 27), as Ireland was limited to 178 for 8 with the game slipping away in the last four overs. This was Afghanistan’s 10th consecutive win in the format, chasing its own record of 11 consecutive wins – recorded between March 2016 and March 2017.
The world’s top T20I bowler, Rashid, bowling the 18th over, claimed a hat-trick powering the victory of Afghanistan with an impressive series format. Shutting the doors of Ireland, Khan got George Dockrell, Shane Getkate and Simi Singh on consecutive deliveries.
Ireland’s paceman Boyd Rankin took three wickets but his four overs blasted an eye-watering 53 runs.
O’Brien – who became the fourth Irishman in 1,000 T20I runs during his innings – was caught behind Rashid, who then dismissed Dockrell as Nabi claimed the ball for a long time threw it into the air as he fell over the rope and finished the catch as he rejoined the playground.
Afghanistan (210/7 in 20 overs)
Ireland (178/8 in 20 overs)
From Thursday, the two teams will be playing five one-day internationals (ODIs), followed by a one-off test at the same venue.
