The 20-year old Victorian top order batsman Will Pucovski is included in the 13-man squad for Australia’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. It was a shock when Cricket Australia confirmed the inclusion of Pucovski in the squad and has dropped the Marsh brothers.
The young lad has become the first player since Ricky Ponting to achieve the feat of a first-class double ton before turning 21. So far, he has played only eight first-class matches but managed to leave a strong impression by scoring 243 runs against Western Australia held in Pert during last October.
Pucovski is one among the only nine players who have achieved this feat so far in a list which includes cricketing legends like Don Bradman. He holds a batting average of 49.00 from 13 innings and has scored two centuries and a half-century for Victoria.
In the past, his career was interrupted by a series of severe head knocks and he is recently back on the team after taking a break from the game to deal with his illness related to mental health.
