Australia and India played out the battle ferociously in the penultimate day of the Perth Test, with the hosts returning with the pro, diminishing India, pursuing an overwhelming 287 to win, to 112 for 5 at Stumps. Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each to leave India shaking.
India was five wickets down in the second innings as Australia finished Day 4 of the Perth Test. Following a target of 287, India finished the day on 112 for five, requiring another 175 runs to enlist a success. In the second innings, India got off to a poor begin, losing KL Rahul for a duck in the first over from Mitchell Starc. Cheteshwar Pujara as well, withdrew soon, leaving India reeling at 9 for two. Captain Virat Kohli (17) and Murali Vijay (20) at that point attempted to balance the Indian innings with a 35-run firm yet off-spinner Nathan Lyon (2-30) rejected both batsmen one after another, putting the Indian group on the back-foot once more. After the flight of Kohli and Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari hung together a 43-run represent the fifth wicket. Both were looking strong yet then Rahane played a poor shot and got out for 30. Vihari (24) and Rishabh Pant (9) were the two unbeaten batsmen when stumps were called. Aside from Lyon, Josh Hazlewood (2-11) grabbed two wickets while Mitchell Starc declares a wicket too.
