Ramesh Powar ended his Controversial tenure as Coach of Indian Women’s Cricket team on November 30 totting up the loss of team India in semi-finals with England. Recently BCCI has announced the vacant post of coach for Women’s team and is expected to fill the seat before the next tour that begins on January 24th with New Zealand. On Tuesday, Powar re-applies for the post following the support from T20 international captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana.
The former Indian spinner confirms to PTI that he has applied because of Smriti and Harmanpreet’s support and he can’t let the girls down. It is also known that Mithali Raj (senior most Women Cricketer) is against his return.
Marking the past event, Mithali went on to accuse Ramesh Powar and COA member Diana Edulji, who tried to destroy her career. On the other side, Powar accused Mithali Raj of threatening to retire from the team creating chaos.
In the meantime, BCCI has created a three-member ad-hoc committee including former Indian cricketers Shantha Rangaswamy, Kapil Dev and Anshuman Gaekwad to carry out with the interviews for shortlisted candidates that are due on Dec 20 at the BCCI headquarters, Mumbai.
The candidates who have applied are Herschelle Gibbs, Manoj Prabhakar, Owais Shah, and Ramesh Powar.
