Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the first Test in Adelaide due to an injury in his left ankle. He got injured during the practice game against Cricket Australia XI at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Shaw was fielding on the deep mid-wicket and got under a catch from a shot by Max Bryant. The 19-year-old Shaw twisted his left ankle upon landing and appeared in a lot of pain.
He continued to stay on the ground due to pain. The Indian physio Patrick Farhart rushed to the ground to access him and was carried off the field into the dressing room and later to the nearby hospital for scans.
Shaw hit an easy 66 during the practice match and was sure to secure his spot as an opener in the upcoming Test. However, as the scans revealed a lateral ligament injury, he will be undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program to fasten recovery.
In this situation, the openers for the first Test will be Vijay and Rahul. Vijay holds a good Test record in Australia and was one of the kingpins with an impressive score of 482 runs (Hundreds – 1, Fifties – 4).
