The Indian captain and famous skipper Virat Kohli moved to the top of the ICC Test Ranking table and displaced Steven Smith and claimed No. 1 ranking for Test batsmen. On Sunday, August 5th ICC revealed its ranking for Test batsmen and Kohli topped the table with 934 points above Smith who holds 929 points. Kohli becomes the 7th Indian batsmen and the first after Sachin Tendulkar in 2011 to top the ICC Test rankings.
Kohli’s recent performance in the first Test against England in Edgbaston has boosted his rankings. He played a remarkable inning on both days of the test. On the first day, he scored 149 which helped India reach a total of 287, and he followed it up with another 51 on the next day. With his valiant contributions, he gained 31 points and displaced the banned Australian captain Smith by five points.
Before Kohli, six other Indian batsmen have already achieved number-one rankings during their careers. They are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Dilip Vengsarkar respectively.
