On June 16, 2018 (Saturday) the BCCI confirmed the Indian squad for the ODI series in England. It has been announced that Suresh Raina will be replacing Ambati Rayudu during this series. After making an impressive performance this IPL season for Chennai Super Kings, Rayudu took his fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru on Friday for the ODI.
Since Rayudu failed to clear the test, he was unable to be a part of the ODI squad. Passing this test has become a necessity in terms of selection into the Indian squad. Recently many other players also have been dropped out of the Indian Test squad and the ‘A’ squad as a result of failing to clear this fitness test.
It is a great opportunity for Raina to prove himself and get a chance to play in the upcoming World Cup. Raina’s last ODI appearance was against South Africa in October 2015. It seems Raina will be playing in the middle order along with KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Dinesh Karthik.
